This year in March, three days after the release of "Something Beautiful", my grandfather passed away. Shortly after, I wrote the song Strangers (with help) about the struggle our family faced with his Parkinson's Disease and the dementia he experienced at the end of his life.
For Christmas, my amazing mom made pillows out of my pappaw's shirts for myself and his other grandchildren. I remember many times that I buttoned up shirts just like this one for him because he couldn't always do it for himself. Now I have this one to remember him by (it even smells a little like him). It's hard to imagine that tomorrow will be a new year in which he will have never lived, but I know he is proud and living a better life now than he ever did in this world. 2016 was one for the books, but here's to 2017. The best is yet to come.
